Valley of the Five Lakes, Jasper National Park, Canada (Summer 2015)

I'm an assistant professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan. My current research examines language technologies and their political investments.

My PhD training was in natural language processing and computational social science. Since then, I've gravitated towards sensibilities informed by science and technology studies. I'm particularly interested in how ideas about language come to be taken for granted, and the often-obscured work that goes into making these ideas material.

If you're interested in working with me as a PhD student, please check out my most recent writings here.
